Sitting with the Unknown
This week we were gearing up to re-open our studio with a minimal schedule of one to two classes per week. But now Greenville has been deemed a “hotspot” for Coronavirus and that has left us wondering what is the best thing to do to meet the needs of our students, our teachers, our community and long term viability of our business? After many conversations with our teachers, we have decided it’s time to take another leap of faith. After 15 years on Stone Avenue, we will close our physical doors until our new location opens in the Fall. This allows us to maintain financial stability and re-emerge even brighter than before.
We know this is a time filled with unknowns, struggle and heartache for many of us. In these times, we turn to each other for support and it is difficult to not be together in community. Our teachers have been brainstorming and we have come up with a few solutions for this.
First, we are always here for your yoga practice. From Yin to Level 2 & 3 Flow classes, from 9am until 9pm- we have your back (pun intended). Now is the time we all desperately want to go back to “normal,” but let me say nothing about these times is normal. I do not wish to go back and pretend all is well. Now is the time to get quiet and listen in, the time to heal for ourselves and our communities large and small. Now is the time for us to continue to breathe and move together, even while we are apart. I am truly grateful for everyone who continues to show up for classes each day. Seeing your faces and hearing your hellos, thank yous and good byes are incredibly meaningful to all of us.
Second, we are creating a calendar of socially distant community opportunities to gather outdoors to practice yoga, read a book together, and watch movies with your friends and family. These events are being curated now and we will have at least one per week beginning July to soothe the need for belonging and togetherness. (Check the July calendar next week and they will be there. When you register for the event, you will get location details in your inbox.)
For me, this is a bittersweet transition. Bitter as we say goodbye to the home where we have laughed, cried, met our loved ones, carried our babies, lost our loved ones and have rebuilt ourvelves to become stronger than before. These walls hold all of our stories, our breaths, our tears, and our intentions. But in a time of change, somehow this transition feels right. Interesting times call for creative solutions. The move also feels sweet as we will finally have a place to call home that is being designed just for us. We will have community gathering areas inside and out, a small creek out back and hawks circling overhead. This will be a new place for us to co-create the healing energy our communities desperately need. I cannot wait to see you all there.
Stay well, keep breathing … with love from Liz
