Flexibility, Strength & Smiles
I took my first yoga flow class in early 2004, and I was nervous afterwards about driving the 3 miles needed to get back home because I was SO relaxed. I was HOOKED, even though I was only able to attend 1 class per week due to my work schedule. My teacher moved to Greenville Yoga when in opened in 2005, and I followed her there, with the added benefit of frequently being able to enjoy a meditative stroll to and from class, weather permitting, since it was less than a 15 minute walk from home, and I added a Saturday class to my routine. One other benefit was that I grew nearly an inch taller in my early 40s as a result of frequently stretching out my spine!
Several years later, I discovered yin yoga, which was only offered then in a once-a-month 2-hour class. Eventually I convinced my husband to try it with me, and we still laugh because he told me “I thought I was going to die” after the class was over. He was curious though, so he started going to flow classes several times a week, and he eventually decided to do teacher training with Liz. He now teaches both yin and flow classes, so yoga has changed both our lives.
Twenty years later, I am still regularly attending classes at Greenville Yoga, even more frequently now that I am retired. Every teacher is so amazing, both knowledgeable about the practice and caring about the needs of their students. Both teachers and students alike clearly feel very comfortable in this setting, and it’s not at all unusual for either, or both, to make a funny comment during class, which frequently causes everyone else to smile, laugh, or make another humorous response. Even during Covid, the option for online live classes gave, and still gives, multiple people the chance to engage with their community as they live chat for 5-10 minutes before the classes start.
“Community” is a great way to describe Greenville Yoga. The socializing that takes place before and after each class reveals the spirit and camaraderie that keeps all of us coming back, 20 years after the studio first opened. I’m looking forward to 20 more years of flexibility, strength, and smiles!
