Befriending Your Body

  • Greenville Yoga 3221 Old Buncombe Road Greenville, SC, 29609 United States (map)

As women living in today’s world, it’s so easy to mindlessly criticize our bodies. Our minds can offer a sneaky, subtle dialog of criticism or even scream insults at us when we least expect it.

Maybe you live with pain, fatigue, injury and have become resentful of your body for letting you down. Perhaps your inner critic can only see your wrinkles, scars, cellulite, weight, “imperfections” when you look in the mirror. All these thought processes are perfectly normal. Our brains are wired for “finding problems” and that process has served our ancestors well when they needed to be on high alert to survive. We are simply being human. However, these conscious or unconscious thought loops can suck our energy, steal our joy, and keep us from living the lives we most desire.

Yoga truly is a place where we can learn to meet ourselves where we are, at any given moment, as we notice, understand, and slowly change our harsh views towards our bodies. Take a break from self-criticism and join us for a lighthearted yet powerful afternoon of loving kindness for yourself. Our time together will include meditation, all levels gentle yoga, journaling, movement with music, and rest. All women with all ability levels welcome.

Jesse is a Registered Yoga Teacher (Greenville Yoga), certified life coach (Martha Beck Wayfinder Coach Training), and former elementary school teacher with a BS in early childhood education/art education (University of West Florida). She lives with severe chronic pain and fatigue due to several auto-immune diseases and has spent over 30 years struggling with body dysmorphia, eating disorders and generally a sticky relationship with self-criticism. It is through yoga and mindfulness that Jesse has found a loving pathway to befriend her body, just as it is. Her greatest passion is to help other women find their own path to a sweeter relationship with their mind/body/spirit as they live their ideal lives.
