Rain’s Garden
Did you ever meet someone that changed the energy of the room by their mere presence? Lorraine was like that. She would immediately get people laughing and make everyone feel completely at home. She came to us as an ex-military, TSA agent. She rode Harleys on the weekends. She loved her family (husband, mom, dad and sisters). And she loved yoga. Every Sunday morning at 9am, she would show up and set up in the back of the room with her “yoga husband” (another student who was there every Sunday morning as well). They would crack up throughout class, but it never bothered me. She made me smile. In 2013 Lorraine went through yoga teacher training with Brian and I. She made such a mark, we knew she would be an amazing teacher. And thus began her 6am yoga classes at Greenville Yoga. Lorraine was a hugger, a laugher and a big bright light. Last April our dear friend passed away. And due to covid, we were unable to say goodbye as a community of family and friends. Over the last year I have tried to figure out the best way to honor our sweet Lorraine. And last week it came to me in a flash…
We’ve been working on creating an outdoor gathering space behind our new studio. We plan to have porch swings, tables, chairs, flowers, blueberries, rosemary and such. I kept thinking of it as our community garden, but truly it needs to be Rain’s Garden. One of our Karma Path students created landscape plans for us with plenty of purple flowers for Rain. Another Karma Path student is taking me shopping for a furniture wish list for your future seating area. And another student encouraged me to take a leap to create a non-profit in honor of Lorraine and her long battle with cancer.
Rain’s Garden is a 501c3 with the following mission: Rain’s Garden will create and maintain a garden space for all who wish to spend time together outside in meditation or community. Additional funds beyond the scope of the garden will provide funds to offset medical bills for Greenville County residents fighting cancer.
Rain’s Garden will be a part of Greenville Yoga’s mission for the long term. First we create the healing garden. Then we help the healing of our community members who need our support. Here is where you come in. We’d love your support to make this happen. We are now a registered non-profit with the state of SC and the IRS. Your donations are tax deductible. You may donate via Venmo (@rainsgarden) or send a check via mail made out to Rains Garden. Gifts large and small make a huge impact as we work to celebrate our friend…
Lorraine’s light was so bright and it will not be dimmed with her passing. She made a mark on all that knew her and it is my honor to keep sharing her love and passing it along.
Thank you all for being here and showing up in all ways large and small.
With love,
Liz
