Yoga is a wonderful way to begin to heal. Not only to you heal the body, but the mind and emotions begin to follow. When you do yoga, you notice the little tweaks in the body when something isn’t right; but you also notice the tweaks in the emotions too. Today, I had the honor of meeting with my acupuncturist and healer. He began helping me 6 years ago after the birth of my son and some severe postpartum depression. His treatments keep me driving back to Charlotte for more.
What do I get from acupuncture? A sense of calm and of trusting my body. When I walk in the first question he asks is- “What’s going on?” I really have to listen to express this. Once I am done, he reads my pulses and gets to work. Sometimes I don’t even know what is going on. Others, I can pinpoint my feelings exactly. Today, everything feels re-set. My mind feels clearer, my body feels stronger and I have more energy than I have had in days.
My point in telling you this? Yoga can be a powerful healing tool, but sometimes we need the help of other healers as well– massage therapists, friends, behavioral therapists, counselors, et cetera. Someone who can help us when we sense something is off and we are unsure of what to do and how to proceed. Listen to your body, your mood, what is it telling you? What kind of healer can help you go one step further? For me, acupuncture works. It feels good. I fall asleep every time and walk out ready to face the world again. What works for you?
