The book Mindfulness in Plain English by Bhante Gunaratana was one of those books that just made sense. He explains the what, why and how of mindfulness in a clear way. Today as I was sitting and then practicing morning yin the following analogy kept entering my mind. Thought it best to share with each of you. Enjoy—
Our mind is analogous to a cup of muddy water. The longer you keep a cup of muddy water still, the more the mud settles down and the water will be seen clearly. Similarly, if you keep quiet without moving your body, focusing your entire undivided attention on the subject of your meditation, your mind settles down and begins to experience the bliss of meditation.
Take some time today in stillness. Maybe you won’t find the bliss of meditation, but maybe you will see clearly the gift of the present moment just as it is.
