Small Miracles

Is there a greater miracle than to see through another’s eyes, even for an instant? ~Thoreau

If we could read the secret history of our enemies, we should find in each man’s life sorrow and suffering enough to disarm all hostility.  ~Longfellow

Once someone is an unreal other, we lose sight of how they hurt.  Because we don’t experience them as feeling beings, we not only ignore them, we can inflict pain on them without compunction… All the enormous suffering of violence and war comes from our basic failure to see that others are real.  ~Tara Brach

This is a gentle reminder to us all.  Take the time time to see others as real- the ones you like, the ones you dislike and the ones you may not notice on a daily basis, the ones you agree with, and even the ones you disagree with. Take the time to look at others through a different lens and know you can never know their true hearts or history.  When we do this, the heart softens and the only response is care and compassion.  Even if just one person today takes on this task, the world will be a littler nice place to be.  If we all take on this task today, it will be a world filled with small miracles.
