From time to time I think we are all challenged with stressful thoughts, fears that pop up in our minds, those times we chide ourselves for past decisions we have made that cannot be changed. There have been several personal situations and events in our family that been devastating. When those thoughts push their way into my mind, I have found an effective way to banish them. I call it Mind Yoga.
I begin by taking a few deep breaths. Then I begin going through my yoga sequence in my mind. I see myself performing my class routines. I think about how to sequence a class, see myself in the postures, see myself relaxed and calm. Providing this focus for my mind dispels all other thoughts. I found Mind Yoga quite by accident one morning about 3:00am. I have used this technique effectively since. I believe it is the discipline that Yoga provides, the focus on breath, the intentional mindfulness of being in the moment that has allowed me to effectively accomplish this.
The next time you find your mind taking you places you do not want to go, try a relaxing breath and then take your mind through your Yoga sequence. I hope it provides you with peace. Namaste~ Susie
