As we embark upon another year’s holiday season, so many emotions arise. For some it is a time of intense joy. For others it is a time of darkness and isolation. For another, it may be a combination of both. No matter what your feelings may be, may you find comfort in this prayer of lovingkindness (a Buddhist prayer called Metta in Pali):
May all beings be peaceful.
May all beings be happy.
May all beings be safe.
May all beings awaken to the light of their true nature.
May all beings be free.
I say this prayer as I greet my family each morning, when I find any struggle or judgement in my own heart, and when I go to sleep each night. Sometimes when I say the prayer I direct it to a particular person or even to myself. Over the past weeks, I have said it for all of humankind.
Here is one more blessing, an Irish one that is sung by a yogi. It is a beautiful blessing to hear and to sing. May it bring light to your day.
As the holy days come to a close, may you find light in your own heart and may you be a blessing to those around you.
With love and light,
Liz, Brian, Henry & Claire
