This morning I woke up with the WORST headache. It started on my upper back and grew up my neck. Every time I moved it hurt and I really didn’t want to do yoga. I made myself go into the yoga room and this is what I did (click the pose names to view a picture in case you aren’t sure):
- several rounds of cat and dog tilt— when I moved into cat tilt, I squeezed my upper arms together as much as possible to arch my back as high as I could
- seated position with eagle arms— after I crossed my arms, I raised my elbows and moved my hands away from my face until I felt the stretch
- seated position and move my ear toward my shoulder– this is a really simple stretch, but so effective- just let your ear hang heavy toward your shoulder and tuck your chin until you feel a stretch
- cobbler’s pose / butterfly pose— when forward folding I rounded my back as much as possible and tucked my chin to my chest
- down dog
- seated meditation
After doing these poses with deep breathing I took a hot shower and coated my back with muscle rub (similar to tiger balm). Although the kids told me they didn’t like the way I smelled, I was better within an hour. Thank goodness for yoga!
